December 30, 2023 - Drank over two days. Nose was pronounced with savory, reductive notes. These blew off after a few hours. The palate was savory with hints of olive, smoked meat and undercurrents of red and black fruit. Day two brought more balance of savory and fruit. Medium bodied (maybe one of the lighter GOK I've had?) some tannins emerging towards the finish with medium acidity. Again, I think what separates cayuse wines is their elegance with excellent power. I've liked the 14 more but this is still an absolute pleasure to drink. This is in a great drinking window especially if (I don't know why you wouldn't be) you are savoring this over a few hours.

    November 8, 2023 - Day 2 notes
Nose is soft and rich. Still hints of funk but very pleasant

Palate is rather simple and linear. Nothing wrong just no wow factor
Not my typical Cayuse experience so I’ll chalk this up to bottle variation

June 10, 2023 - The 2013 Cayuse God Only Knows is an expo in the breadth of grenache in the hands of a good vintner. This wine is a savory funky wine with syrah-esq power that I probably wouldn't have pegged as grenache had I not known. Really bretty on the nose with a core of meatiness and leather with a backbone of black cherry and blackberry. This wine took on air very well and was great with the steak it was served with and the next day after lunch. 93+

April 7, 2023 - "2nd of 2 bottles purchased. This drank very different from my first bottle 4 months ago. Spiced Christmas plum is what came to mind as the dominant flavor. Very well made and unique wine but not my preferred style of wine. So different from any other Grenache based wine I've ever had."

February 2, 2023 - Crimson in color. 13.6% ABV. Savory nose of red fruits, ash, olive brine and flowers. Medium body with just enough acidity. Dark and brooding on the palate with flavors of cherry, strawberry, smoke and minerals. Exceptional length on the finish. Truly unique Grenache that is drinking beautifully at 10 years of age. The last of a 3 pack for me but this will drink well for several more years.

    January 18, 2023 - A confusing wine--

First night: a meaty nose on opening--the so-called Rocks funk. I decanted this for a few hours and the funk blew off a little. The nose morphed into a fruitier and more herbal profile--red berries, blood orange, thyme. The palate more or less duplicated these notes with an admirable elegance, but occasionally--and I stress only occasionally--there was an unpleasant aftertaste--itself somewhat bitter and herbal. I have no idea what this after taste might have been, but it never left entirely.
Second night: the nose maintained its red berry and blood orange profile. At times I detected notes of olive, as well--not unlike a Northern Rhone wine. The palate was maybe a little brighter; the feel still light and elegant.
Third night: the wine faded a little here.

Overall, I was perplexed by the end of the bottle and have chosen not to score it. When it was good, I thought it was a 93/94; when the bitter/herbal note lingered, I didn't particularly like it at all.

EDIT: The aftertaste I described was more or less just like the herbal/medicinal notes from Alpine Amaro. Go figure--

January 1, 2023 - Really started to sing after 3 hours in decanter and another 2 back in the bottle. Typical funk on the nose with lots of great bright red fruits on the palette.

December 5, 2022 - 100% Grenache from cult biodynamic producer Cayuse. Gave this a 4 hr decant. 13.6 abv. Extremely unusual on the nose and palate. Very smooth wine. Red fruit, an earthy funk, minerals, game, eucalyptus, squid ink.

May 15, 2022 - Clear pale red in the glass typical of Grenache.

Nose has the signature Cayuse funk.

Palate is silky smooth, earthy, rich and complex yet light on its feet.

    As always an experience.

    Enjoyed tonight.

April 30, 2022 - drank 40 minutes after decanting. HUGE nose of alcohol, really ripe fruit on the nose, with tons of eucalyptus and very metallic. Surprisingly not that sweet on the palate.
