October 24, 2023 - Big wine, dark ruby color, dark cherry, plum notes, very youthful at 11 years old, almost no secondary character, years to go, hints of high ETOH (14.8%) but well hidden in the dark fruit

March 25, 2020 - The last of 4 bottles from a 2012 mixed case. All the remains is a single Angel Hawk.
Through every vintage, the Kite’s rest has been my favorite, both in terms of value and drinking pleasure.
The nose is black cherry and a feral mix of blackberry and spice. The mouthfeel, even at this age, has an edge to it. The acid is great with fatty foods but a little off-putting as a stand-alone glass.
That acid is what gives this wine its longevity as I feel it has a bit of runway left.
Flavor is cherry, plum & blackberry with all-spice
Finish is long and mostly plum.

October 30, 2019 - Unfortunately, last bottle of the 2012.

August 28, 2018 - Great Pinot in the prime of its drinking window.

February 9, 2018 - Prior bottle was just over ten months ago and this wine continues to show incremental positive improvement. Black raspberry, spices and earth notes on the nose. Remains a bit above medium bodied and still certainly a "big", fruit driven wine, but is progressing nicely towards a more elegant future. Black raspberry and black cherry upfront with rounded depths through the middle. Brings in wildberry and tart cherry on the backside along with a mix of acidity derived tartness, some oak/vanilla and integrated tannins. Structure and fruit are coming into balance nicely, if slowly. This was open for almost four hours and improved noticeably over that time. Clearly has a lot of life left and honestly, probably isn't even at peak yet. I'll just need to remember with future purchases from this producer to let it sit a bit longer than I otherwise would. Cellar time well spent.
