July 20, 2019 - Drank it at a vertical Palmer dinner. 1996, 01, 08, 09, 12 was served. 01 was my absolute favourite that evening. It drinks perfectly at the moment. It was the most balanced wine - not overpowering but brought all the expression of Margaux together. Incredibly pretty and elegant with ripe cassis, dark cherries, some graphite, a hint of cedar. The medium bodied, well structured palate gives medium tannins, medium+ acidity with a good balance of plump. 09 will become superbe in 10 - 15 years, at the moment it is still a monster and way too young for my taste. Also popped a 89 the next day from my cellar. While the 2009 is on the way to become a 89, I doubt the 01 will reach the same level with more years. So no need to wait longer, drink it now.

June 24, 2019 - From magnum in London. As classic of a Palmer nose as any vintage of this wine. Absolutely beautiful!
Resolved tannins and although this wine will last another 20 years in magnum format, it is in a beautiful transition from primary to secondary nuisances. 2001 produced wines of finesse over power, and this is an absolute beauty. If you prefer wines with secondary characteristics, give this wine another five plus years.

May 1, 2019 - At a perfect stage. One could discuss the pros and cons of the vintage and what more a Palmer could offer. But this was a great wine

April 29, 2019 - Earthy, tannins fully resolved, the wine of the night. Drink up remaining bottles over next 3 years.

March 3, 2019 - Super wine - still dark ruby red, with a wonderful cedar nose that is very left bankish, but could be pauillac or st julien. But on the palate this is elegance personified, firmly back in Margaux territory. Nit-picking it could have more weight and persistence, but in some way that is part of its charm. Great !

(Chateau Palmer Margaux) This is 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Ripe and plump on the nose, with some nutty oak, and some stylish, slightly exotic fruit notes. Similarly full, ripe and plump on the palate. Underneath there is a grippy structure with a tannic finish. But this can't distract from the ripe berry fruits and evident finesse, even at this youthful stage. I think this will develop a lovely integration, but needs 7-8 years at least.
