January 17, 2016 - Our first try of this particular Pinotage, a varietal we often like when it is excellent. Dark, intense, black berries on the eye. Think ink! Breathed for two hours in the bottle before sniffing ’n sipping. Aromas of strawberries, cherries, liquorice, burnt coffee and a touch of oak (apparently 23 months in 100% French barrels, 35% new). Palate mucho-dry, medium+ body, fairly high alcohol, dirty-grassy tannins with ripe berries and cherries. Long, far too much cherry, finish. Slightly candy-like after 4 hours of sipping. A bit too much berries for our liking, but we think this might integrate better with the oak over the next few years or so. Perhaps too young, perhaps not, perhaps…je ne sais quoi. Pleasant drop, nevertheless.

Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe strawberry, dark cherry, and mocha. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol, high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of ripe strawberry, dark cherry, boysenberry, and mocha. Medium+ finish.
Good quality. A nice Pinotage. Can drink now, and will develop over the next 5 years.
