October 29, 2023 - PnP. Normally this much Oak bothers me, because there is often an Oak resin element that overwhelms the fruit. Not this time, just the sweet Oak without the resin. Tannins (from the barrel and fruit) are thick but very pliable and relatively smooth. The ripe cherry fruit is not overwhelmed and gets extended on a 40+ second finish with some black truffles appearing after mid palate. A rather unique Burg that lacks the fabled levels of distinct minerality, but this is no fruit bomb and has an elegance to it that is worth trying.

October 26, 2020 - This starts off a little aloof but does show some of the makings of sous bois-inflected aromas; truffle, damp red fruit coming through with some vague cabinet spice and wild herbs. There is a "soupy" thickness here that adds volume and intensity, a wine demanding food today (for me). While the material is impression, there is a lack of delineated right now that says this wine just needs more time. a note of toasted oak comes through more on the palate than on the nose. Big style here just closed up some. Try again in 3-5 years to check in. 93-94

October 25, 2020 - Tasted blind: medium garnet; nice truffles and dark cherry nose quickly opens up to a more “soupy” deep ripe fruit character with hints of tomato leaf vegetal qualities. Quite open for an’02 GC and very good but not special. I have the ‘99 and ‘03 of this and anticipate those and this ‘02 will improve over the next several years.

July 31, 2020 - This smelled great upon opening so it slow oxd for several hrs before dinner. A lovely bottle with lots of extraction, good amount of sap, and a velvety mouth feel that will not score points for finesse and delicacy but was nonetheless very tasty, balanced and had nice layers fro red and black fruit to secondaries of spice, autumn forest and a fairly wide finish. There is definitely a touch of wood but not overdone or detracting unless you are oak fobic, So much more restrained then the wines Laurent produced in the mid 90's. I liked it quite a bit and so did the crew as it disappeared rather fast

June 26, 2020 - 2001 (and circa) Burgundy (Jason's Roof): Double blind 5 of 7. This was clearly the "intellectual" wine of the night, with solid structure, showing some age, a touch of iron, and some complex flavors. Not as much fruit and maybe just a touch of acidity, but very good. I was pretty certain this was my bottle of Fourrier and lol, no. I continue to think that Laurent is really good in most vintages post 1999 when the oak regimen was eased a bit, though don't bring it to hipster restaurants :)

January 20, 2020 - I'm told from 90+ year old vines, more towards the top of the vineyard. Very powerful, rich nose of sous bois, boeuf bourguignon, licorice, tosted oak over dark cherries. Robust structure with obvious firm tannins but are integrated properly. Lots of gravely, mineral scents with a bit of tomato-like savor to the powerful fruit, campfire smoke and various wild herbs. This explodes from the glass today and drinks very well for an '02 Grand Cru at the moment. Open for business.

February 5, 2017 - Pop and pour. This plot of old vine Clos Vougeot produces some seriously delicious and concentrated wine. The wine is generous with concentrated berry fruit and a tasty dose of oak from Msr. Laurent. I might quibble that there wasn't of lot of complexity but the depth and juiciness demands adoration. The bottle went quickly and paired terrifically with roast chicken.

June 11, 2015 - Really good wine. Fresh flavors and strong structure. Still young tá this time. Good for the next 10 years.
