July 20, 2023 - Slo-oxed for 5 minutes to allow some funk to blow off, and the wine did not improve throughout our dinner. This wine is definitely showing its age and we may have waited too long to open it. Although the nose gave us some red fruits, the palate did not measure up as we found the fruit fading and the earth and acidity becoming prominent. The wine was rather light bodied for a Syrah, with some
spice, and resolved tannins.
April 29, 2020 - Started off tart and green as most Tensley Thompsons I've had, then after 2+ hours it eased to be less fruity than his other work, but expressive in its vegetal nature, if still a little uptight. Did not release fruit for me, but still a pleasantly austere drink.
April 16, 2020 - expressive red berry favors, layered and wonderful toast and spice. Highly extracted - quintessential Tensley Syrah. Love it
January 25, 2020 - A bit of menthol on the nose followed by a mouthful of blackberries with a smooth lasting finish
August 11, 2018 - This was the standout wine of the evening! The clear favorite for everyone.
November 9, 2017 - Very atypical for California syrah IMHO. Med bodied garnet colored. A little funk on the nose with red fruit. High acid (for this type of wine) and tart (but not harsh) on the palate with more red fruit and cranberry. Also a little oak and garrique, hence the funkiness. A nice wine and a nice departure from typical big cali syrahs. drink now and should be fine for the next 5 years.
November 3, 2017 - friendly wine, smooth and bursting with blackberry and olive notes. Family enjoyed so much we opened another
November 22, 2016 - Nice solid syrah with expressive nose and soft mouthfeel.
April 9, 2015 - very nice berry nose like most tensley Syrahs. More acidity than in Terra Alta vineyard or Colson Canyon. had with pizza and pairs better with good than solo.
April 7, 2015 - Nice easy drinking Syrah, light to medium body. Better on day 2.
