September 15, 2020 - A night of bretty Beaujolais, I'm afraid. This was not nearly as affected as the 2009 Bouland and was certainly gamy but still enjoyable for its light, tart, earthy, strawberry/cherry fruit. Not a highlight reel Descombes wine.

June 14, 2020 - Light ruby to the rim. A touch of carbonic scents, but mostly briary black fruit. Light, herbal, earthy black fruit and crackling cranberry acidity at the end. Brisk, tangy, tart Gamay. I'm not sure that it has gained that much from aging, but it has certainly admirably stood the test of time.

August 8, 2018 - Not sure this is that great of a vintage for Morgon - I tend to prefer slightly riper years I suppose (YMMV). A bit reminiscent of a cool vintage Oregon pinot.

January 20, 2017 - Not the most seriously structured Morgon out there but not the most carefree either. Quite dark toned on the nose with cherry-laden fruit, dust and minerality. On the palate light-to-medium bodied and not particularly tannic but with good grip and pleasant tartness on the finish. Plenty of lively, savory dark fruit, though gets a bit thin in the end. Perfectly nice stuff but for some reason I find myself craving for Lapalu right now.

September 25, 2016 - Nice Beaujolais. Not overly fruity, some depth, very solid.

October 21, 2015 - Ruby. Brambly black fruit. Dry, medium weight entry dominated by tart black fruit. Mid-palate floral and black licorice notes, and then a crackling finish with earth and salinity. Uncompromising in its tautness.

March 12, 2015 - Drunk alongside the 2013 Descombes Brouilly, this took longer to show well and was best towards the end of the first night and on day two. More perfumed, sweeter, and richer than the Brouilly, its iron and meat flavours crescendo-ing with time open to the point that I was reminded of a N. Rhone Syrah on day two.

November 30, 2014 - Big, it's balanced, but man there's a lot of material here, and its snappy and fresh but a little weighed down right now. Needs a few years to shake itself out.

November 20, 2014 - Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Beaujolais Bash-Primarily 2013 and 2012 (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Dark fruit. Serious, well balanced and positively meaty compared to any other 2013 tasted tonight. Excellent-look forward to the Vieilles Vignes bottling.
