Community Tasting Notes 8

January 23, 2022 - It’s been several years since I opened a previous bottle of this stuff, and from my tasting note at the time, I REALLY didn’t like it. So it seems as if enough time has passed to try again.

And although I only have my tasting note to remind me of what I thought before, I’d have to say this wine has improved, from borderline bad to “decent but not great.” It has a strange, chemical taste underneath the fruit which I find objectionable, but it’s not awful and I will finish my glass without too much nose-wrinkling.

I still wouldn’t buy it again, especially not at $25+, but I adjusted the score up.

By the way, if you still have any of this wine, don’t try to open it with a corkscrew. You may be sorry I’d you do. (At least 50% of the time I break my “don’t use a corkscrew on wine that’s ten or more years old” rule, I pay a price for my stupidity.)

January 17, 2020 - This bottle had been in a friend's kitchen cabinet for the past 3 years and yes, it is showing a little long in the tooth. But I found it really enjoyable and with another friend, we managed to polish it off quickly enough that it didn't deteriorate too badly while open. It hasn't lost any of it's "darkness" in color or flavor. Less licorice, more tobacco than before. This may be a bit prematurely mature, but I would say this is a great time to be opening these. 5+12+16+7= 90

July 22, 2018 - Spicy nose, EtOH, cinnamon and honey. Spicy wine with dark minerality. Notes of cinnamon and honey. Active. At 15.5% alcohol, it is just barely maintaining its composure.

July 13, 2018 - Halfway decent, maybe, but barely. Very fruity and a bit hot. Hoping it will improve on night 2. Not a wine I would buy again.

Revising score down. Even worse on day 2 (used wine preserver.) This doesn’t taste corked to me, it just tastes like bad wine. My spouse agrees. Pouring half a bottle down the drain. I have two more, so will update if I get inspired to punish myself again.

Given the price, I’m going to call this worst QPR ever.
