January 23, 2022 - Don't judge until day 2: blackberry and cassis to pine needles, fruity but dry. I like the nose.

    April 30, 2019 - 2 hour decant.
Reasonable enough, but nothing to catch the palette.

April 17, 2019 - 5th out of 6 bottles. I like this wine but aging has not worked well on it. It has lost most of the tension and fruit. Still nice but time to drink up.

December 9, 2018 - Eucalyptus and lozenges on nose. Bright and fresh on palate with no sign of fade. A little burn on the last big aftertaste. Overall, the quality credentials of the makers shine through.

March 31, 2018 - A blend of Touriga Nacional (50%), Touriga Franca (20%), Syrah (20%) and Tinto Cão (10%). Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 18 months in French oak. 13% alcohol.

Almost black cherry color with some translucency. Juicy, dark-toned and rather sweet nose with aromas of strawberries, blueberries, some sweet dark plums and a hint of vanilla oak. The wine is quite full-bodied, supple and smooth on the palate, but also showing surprisingly high acidity for the style. There are ripe flavors of peppery spice, ripe plums, some toasty oak, a little bit of chocolate and cacao oak tones, a little bit of boysenberries and a hint of strawberry jam. The wine feels surprisingly warm for a wine at only 13%, making me thing whether the label is 100% correct. The structure relies a bit more on the high acidity than on the well-manicured, ripe tannins. The finish is quite warm, a bit grippy and somewhat spicy with more savory than sweet flavors of juicy dark fruits, some woody bitterness, a little bit of coarse peppery spice and brambly hints of fresh forest berries.

A sophisticated and approachable modern Douro red showing good balance between the ripe fruit and fresh acidity. Perhaps a bit of a crowdpleaser with its gentle tannins and polished sheen of sweet oak spice, this wasn't a real bullseye for me. However, I can imagine the wine will show better after some more years in a cellar - at least if the oak integrates better with the fruit. I wouldn't keep this wine for ages due to its quite round nature and smooth tannins, but there is nevertheless no hurry with this one. I expect it will reach its apogee at 10-15 years of age. Perhaps a tad pricey at 17,80€.
