    January 19, 2021 - Brought to family dinner night (Farina) and could only take some quick notes, but they are surprisingly consistent with my previous ones. Still vibrant since my last bottle 3 years ago- black cherries, tart but bright, with an earthy-spice clove finish. Plenty of acidity, I'd hazard to say it could go another 3 years, but my last bottle will probably be gone before the 15 year mark. Bumping my evaluation to a high A- rating (93) based on how this has held up after 12+ years.

    January 28, 2019 - Opened to take to a blind tasting. Decanted carefully, noted a very dull nose, even after a half hour nothing really developed. Decanted back into bottle and held under cork for 24 hours.

    Next day. Nose still very dull, some light cherry and spice but not much else. Nice tarry black cherry flavours and a decent slightly tannic finish.

    Just a bad bottle would be my guess.

    October 5, 2018 - One of those victories for the wine collector, where the right bottle at the right time is opened in the right context. This Gattinara showed better than expected with just the right level of iron/iodine to pair with steak, but not enough to be off putting. Very good fruit and freshness, while also not harsh or tannic through the finish. Really nice balance kept me going back for more, and luckily my friends weren't competing with me for the last sips. There is still room for the nose to bloom further, but I do love where the palate is, somewhere between fading primary and early secondary. Most definitely in the drinking window, anyhow.

    June 7, 2018 - Medium brickish garnet to tawny color. Aromatically tight on the pop, but opened up over a couple hours to notes of earth, licorice, tar, dark and red fruits, dark chocolate, mushrooms, potpourri, and violets. Medium body, medium (+) acid and finish, with flavors of dark and dark red fruits, black tea, dark chocolate, licorice, walnuts, and minerals. Overall, this is a little darker than I typically enjoy in a nebbiolo, and I'm not sure about the winemaking here, but there are enough typically oak derived notes (no straight oak though) to suggest possible aging in small casks; however, it's working it out here and totally balanced, and I'm quite enjoying it. Great with pizza tonight, but even better contemplatively sipping afterward. Drinking well now, but I'd bet it's got a few more good years in it too. 90-91
