Produced since 1986. Just shy of 1800 feet in elevation, in a small bowl on the western edge of the Mayacama mountains lies the original Kistler planting. Thirty year old vines grow dry farmed in deep red volcanic ash, producing a wine with an intense sense of the mountain heritage of the delicate stone fruit that is lifted, like its McCrea cousin, yet firmer, and with a stronger core and added layers of richness.

A rich, creamy, seamless style, with a vibrant core of honeydew melon, nectarine and white peach, shaded by light oak. A well balanced wine of dimension and complexity.

May 25, 2019 - PnP. Jaune pâle. Nez discret. Bouche peu inspirante. 89-90pts

April 4, 2018 - Light golden yellow in color. Full, forward & expansive nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples, lemons/limes & pineapples with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle, wet stones, minerals, roasted hazelnuts, buttery, smoky/toasty oak & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of apples, lemons/limes & pineapple with minerals, spices, toasty oak & a touch of vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present. Although it should hold at its current plateau of development for a while, I don't think any significant further development would occur with additional aging.
