February 17, 2023 - I do like this. Inky nose of figs and new sneakers. Mouth of papaya, plums and quality black shoe polish. Medium length finish of aniseed and limes. Interesting wine and I think 10 years of ageing has done a good service.
October 14, 2020 - Tonight this is better - by far - than the prior 2 bottles I've had. No overwhelming funkiness on the nose. Well integrated tannins with herbs and sweet and spicy cherry flavors followed by a nice dry finish. Now I wish I had more.
January 27, 2019 - Similar to last time. This is almost repellent on opening (to some), with overwhelming funk and bitter tannins. It needed lots of time and air to become its best version. The mourvedre and the dirty side of malbec dominated.
December 16, 2018 - Full bodied and solid overall. Not very complex but still delivers a nice experience. Drink or hold.
November 14, 2018 - Big, dark, and inky. Heavy notes of blackberry, blueberry, and black plums. Oaky notes of vanilla and toast. The wine is dry and tannic. My first impression was "Wow there's a lot of Petit Sirah in here!" Turns out the blend is only 10% Petit, with an additional 16% Mourvedre (which explains the aforementioned tannins)
38% Malbec and 36% Syrah comprise the bulk of this Big Blend from Lake County that, despite the formidable cépage, finishes fast and quiet.
February 19, 2018 - A little light but well balanced
January 14, 2018 - Very lush fruit flavors in the front with a simple almost non-existant ending.
November 21, 2017 - Really great GSM blend.
November 15, 2017 - Well balanced red fruit with a hint of acid. Quick finish. Enjoyable by many
November 8, 2017 - Suitably named for its eruption of dark color, fruit flavor and very dry finish.
