March 7, 2021 - Very big but still has enough acidity and minerality to keep it from being cloying and unpleasant. Not the most enjoyable experience but if paired with the right food it was OK. Fruit is really in the forefront and it has a high level of extraction. Would I buy this again? No, but it had a few good points.

    Currents, cherry, berries, tobacco?

July 17, 2020 - One off purchase from the winery ($70 or $75) about 5 years ago. 1 oz pour, followed by 90 minutes of air, although the extra air wasn't really needed. On the nose and palate, wet earth, anise, minerality, leather, sweet cherries, blackberries and cassis, and just a touch of vanilla and oak, and after time, coffee and dark chocolate and a gravelly finish. Medium dark purple, medium bodied, thick legs. Medium++ tannins which are silky, medium- acidity, no heat. Medium+ complexity, medium intensity, medium+ persistence. Bought at the winery after a long, ample but middling tasting and a gift from my then girlfriend, now wife, on our first trip to wine country together, I wasn't sure what to expect from this wine, what with no pro scores and a mediocre CT score from a winery about which the best thing I can say is that its products are drinkable at a reasonable price point. So I'm pleased to say that this blew away my expectations, doing a great job of straddling the power-elegance divide with lovely balance. Wonderful complement to stuffed pasillas, sausage and polenta and dark chocolate. Prime drinking window which should have a minimum of 3-5+ years left. Not cheap, especially by the standards of this winery, but impressive. Recommended+. 92-93
