February 10, 2024 - Henri Gouges' wines are seemingly hit or miss for me in my past experiences with the producer, but this bottle was definitely a good representation of 1er Cru Nuits-Saint-Georges. Slow oxidising the bottle for an hour before giving it a go at dinner, the nose opened up to boast tart red cherries, smoke, cedar and hint of florality in what became an increasingly aromatic nose. The palate was bursting with energy as bright red cherries, oak and vanilla imposed themselves on the upfront before an earthy funk and hints of cola and cinnamon created complexity across the mid-palate. The finish was spice driven, with the wine boasting great acidity. This is probably just entering its window and will continue to improve from hereon.

October 15, 2023 - Sadly my last bottle but always a great Burgundy. Lots of flavor layers and clearly a solid Premier Cru NSG.

July 7, 2023 - Pulled cork 1 hour before dinner with no decant. This wine just keeps getting better and better. More complexity now & less fruit forward. Some 2ndary flavors. More richness but smooth. Acidity still high so years left. Red fruits dominate of course. Not Chambolle & not Vosne but very good. Gouges 1er Cru NSG never disappoint.

January 2, 2023 - Lovely, nearly mature Gouges (gosh, these things take a long time to come into their own!). Just at the beginning of its drinking window, I'd say, and very classic Nuits. A good relative value, too. Needs the right food, imo.

August 12, 2022 - No decant but pulled the cork an hour before dinner. Red fruits dominate. Typical Burgundy high acidity. Wine is perfectly balanced. You can tell this is a step up from villages. Very smooth and full of flavor. Very well rounded. A really great Burgundy.

April 7, 2022 - Beau nez mais cette bouteille se goûtait un peu fermée en bouche.

November 27, 2021 - No decanting but I should have. A bit tIght and tart at first. Didn’t really start to open up until an hour later. Great acidity but seems a bit out of balance. Red fruits dominate. I thought it didn’t really live up to its Premier Cru label. Maybe an off bottle.

May 18, 2021 - Earthy, reductive, sweet cherry and blackberries. Very easy to drink with fully integrated tannins. Lovely
