August 17, 2022 - Opened, poured into a decanter, and saved half in a 375ml bottle.
Tasted the half bottle about 4 days later.
Dark purple color.
Nose offers dark fruit, beef blood and licorice. Touch of dried herbs too.
Rich and dark fruited intro, with a round mouthfeel. Tastes a bit heavy without sufficient acidity.
Packs a punch at 15,4% abv. although it does not show much heat on the palate.
Good quality cork, branded, no vineyard, and with vintage on the top.
July 16, 2022 - A nose of dark fruit and spice, dark black ink in color. A full bodied red, with blackberry, blueberry, spiced flavors on long finish. www.winelx.com
June 13, 2022 - Last bottle of this, upon opening it was a little musty but that blew off after 30 min. Great black and blue fruits, black currant, licorice, dried violets, dried earth, tobacco, spice box, great silky profile and a perfect balance. This wine is as inky as it gets, great stuff.
April 2, 2021 - Drinking well now. Enjoyable!
January 24, 2021 - Informal notes. Nicely ripe, black fruits, very inky, a vegetal/underbrush note, quite tannic still, a little coarse. Hid its alcohol well. Got a bit tiring by the end.
December 20, 2020 - Don't know if I'm too early or a little late on this wine. Not as good as I expected and I've been a fan of Carlisle PS for over a decade. From other reviews, it may be a substandard bottle or just in a dumb phase. Fruit was muted and the vegetal characteristic was quite strong. Had other bottles open so put it aside for a couple hours after being opened for 3 prior. Didn't improve much before we drank it. Probably should have saved it for the next day to see how it evolved. Have one more to try again.
December 19, 2020 - Full throttle, intense wine. Tannins are very well managed. Alcoholic heat is almost as well managed. I think this will age very well as it drinks excellently day two. This needs more complexity to merit a higher score but it is impressive for its concentration. Old world aficionados steer away from Carlisle.
November 26, 2020 - Big wine, long finish. Red fruit, full body, balanced tannins. Loved it. Aging well
April 22, 2020 - Dark black and blue fruits, extremely inky, toasted oak, tobacco leaf, great purity and texture. This is great now and will last for over a decade.
March 21, 2020 - Inky dark wall of fruit
This will go ages
Give it some air
