September 5, 2021 - At age eight, this wine is still drinking nicely. Red and black fruit with slightly receding Christmas spice and wild herbs. Good depth and wonderful texture. The nose has tertiary characteristics. Time to drink up. Good juice.
November 4, 2020 - Similar notes to my last tasting of about 1 yr ago. Reserved rich dark fruit, delicious and balanced. Improved over the next hour.
October 16, 2020 - I generally love Black Chicken but this bottle left me disappointed. The fruit seems to be gone and all that is left is a bit of acid and tannin. Drinkable but not great.
November 23, 2019 - This wine is finagling hitting on all cylinders. Dark fruit and Mediterranean spices lead the way in this well balanced Zinfandel. Everything is in the right place. Good juice.
July 16, 2019 - Deep black fruit, sin nose, decanted and splash decant, decent, opened latered and then faded at the end. Perfect time to drink.
May 25, 2019 - This benefitted mightily from being open overnight. Opened Friday night, was good and could have enjoyed it over the evening but recorked and drank the remaining 2/3's a little over 24 hours later and this was singing.
Nice fruit, some pepper, a bit of acid creeping through. I think these have many more years of life ahead of them if stored properly and can benefit from a several hour decant for near term drinking.
March 10, 2019 - A typical well made black chicken with lots of fruit but not jammy. Can definitely go a few more years but is probably not going to get better. Drank next to a 2014 Black Chicken which was much more reserved and refined as opposed to the 2013 which is much more in your face.
January 13, 2019 - Dark fruit, garrigue and Mediterranean spice are well balanced in this Zinfandel. Somewhat muted on the nose. Enjoyable in every way, but no match against the 2014 iteration. Still good juice!
December 24, 2018 - Great Wine, drinking very well
September 1, 2018 - On the nose- Dark and red fruits, dark cherries, blackberry, plums, dark earth, leather, cigar box spice, smoke
On the palate- Dark and red fruits, great dark cherries and blackberry, lush plums and dark earth, some leather and cigar box spice and a hint of smoke, the finish is lush and super smooth, the tannins are perfect right now and work well with the fruit, this wine is drinking fantastic after an hour decant, but this wine could age another 3-5 years no problem, great as a stand alone wine but fantastic with dinner as well just another world class Zinfandel from Biale
