December 28, 2021 - A massive wine, tons of fruit, and well-balanced tannins. I am going to put my second bottle back in the cellar and try it in a few years.

November 5, 2021 - Nicely balanced wine that checks all the boxes. Tobacco leaf, dark fruits and chocolate on the finish. Despite 15.3% alc this wine is smooth and balanced. Soft dusty tannins accompany the long finish. Drinking well right now.

April 25, 2021 - Lush fruit forward Napa cab that still manages to be balanced. Tannins have receded and the acidity is medium. Expressive nose and no hotness on the palate despited clocking in at 15.3% ABV. Very well made and drinking well.

October 25, 2019 - Not as fruit-forward and complex as the 2010, but this bottle exhibited a velvety mouthfeel with soft floral notes and licorice, blackberry and plum flavors. Great with pasta alla bolognese!

September 30, 2019 - Dark ruby. Generous nose of flowers, dark fruits. Silky mouth with a medium finish, med+ acidity and very fine tannins. If tasted blind I'd assume it to be a bit more expensive than what it goes for. I'd drink now or hold for at least 5 years

June 17, 2019 - See notes from previous bottles. Consistent effort from Mr. Herold. Not sure if I can taste the $100 difference between the brown and white labels. Both are superb.

June 5, 2019 - The 2012 Herold Cabernets are consistently great wines in general, but for $95, the Brown label cabs are a steal. Dark purple in the glass with a beautiful bouquet of black and red fruit, oak and mocha. The same fruit explodes onto your palate with some licorice and Howell Mountain-like earthiness. 15-second finish.

May 25, 2019 - Aromatics of black cherries, oak and anise. No decanting was necessary as the wine exhibited a complexity of flavors including blackberries, cherries and mocha. Long finish.
