January 14, 2021 - 1 of the things that I really like about Summa Vineyard is how unique it tastes compared to the rest of the plots in region. The orange peel note is present right away from the moment you take your first sip. You don't even need to give it air and it's right there. Notes of pomegranate and raspberry right away. 30 minutes later, white pepper shows up with a touch of cinnamon. Feels like there is a lot of fruit up front but it yields to leather notes and with great acidity. I think this is still filling in and the fruit will soften with a bit more. Given the acidity, I would pair it up with food and not drink it by itself. 30+ second long tail (specially around the 1 hour mark of the bottle being opened). Giving it even more time to open up in the bottle started to give it more savory notes such as bay leaves. Overall, really enjoying this bottle and recommend just opening it up and leaving it in the bottle for 1 hour before touching it.

January 14, 2021 - Slightly cloudy mid garnet color.

Very cerebral and perfumed nose with a lot packed into it. Roses, sandalwood, cinnamon... lots to discover just by smelling.

Wonderful palate, intense without ever being heavy or cloying.

Very layered with red and black fruits and plenty of orange zest. Carries through the spicy mid-palate, and finishes very long.

Perhaps a smidge soft, but in the presentation of this wine, I am fine with the softness.

Difficult to predict the aging curve for me, but showing so much right now.

Definitely a benchmark pinot from the occidental area of the Sonoma coast!

October 10, 2020 - Gotta love when you unexpectedly find an older vintage lying around. This shows beautiful herbal and conifer notes throughout. Lovely length and complexity.

August 15, 2020 - I like BurgundyAl’s review and agree but would give at least a couple more fruits. Fruit is ripe but well balanced and definitely not a Cali Syrah in a Pinot bottle. Lots of spice, citrus and acid....really nice

July 21, 2020 - Raspberry, spices and earth on a nose that was even more aromatic than the 2014 Walter Scott Pinot Noir Seven Springs it was drunk alongside. Between medium and full bodied with red cherry upfront and just a hint of brighter strawberry. Mid-body showed deeper raspberry and good density. Backside brought in very good acidity (better than I'd expected and excellent for balancing the depth of mid-body fruit ). As a result, even through there was a lot of fruit weight to be carried, the acidity and fine grained tannins meant that the wine came off with elegance and polish. Some tart red cherry and cranberry added additional contrasting notes on the back. Should hold up well over the next few years, but based on how well everythign was integrated, this may be peak or very close to it.
