June 7, 2021 - A bit congested like so many from '13 Napa vintage, though shows some richness and composure too. Red fruit profile. A bit better on the 2nd day, bringing more dryness which was welcome.
May 16, 2021 - Decanted for 90 minutes. Initially lots of plum fruit, with medium depth and decent finish. After another hour, the depth really kicked in. Great cherry, good structure, long finish. Started as 89-90, finished at 90-91.
March 6, 2021 - From magnum. Presents as magnum opened in June, 2019. Thin with a somewhat short finish of hard plum. Pleasant enough, but not memorable.
February 23, 2020 - From 750ml, very different impressions as noted in magnum back in 6/19. Red fruit, medium-bodied, great balance with a 20+ second finish. A terrific showing to drink now, over next 3-4 yrs before becoming advanced.
December 7, 2019 - This shows a little better than the bottle from a year ago - a bit more open and resolved. One of the better red fruit profile wines from Sonoma.
June 24, 2019 - From magnum. 1 glass from Day 1, showed more like a pinot-lover's cabernet, light and lithe, more so than I ever remembered for this wine. Somewhat thin and offering only short, plummy fruit. A much more full and richer showing on Day 2, the even-handed and fruit-driven Hawkes cabernet we love. Not a long-lived wine, 6 btls and 2 mags to follow over the next 3-5 years.
February 22, 2019 - Very nice right now, and should drink well for many years. Love (LOVE!) the nose, as it hits with spice box, floral notes, cherries and earth. Very complex and intriguing. Palate is smooth, with the familiar Red Winery flavors present, as in past vintages. I find myself occelating between favorite single vineyards from Hawkes, but have never been disappointed by a wine from this vineyard.
October 13, 2018 - Red fruit profile, some chalk and minerality. I think I prefer the Stone and Pyramid expressions.
August 17, 2017 - Different from other hawkes cabs. Not a ton of fruit. Dare I say a little barnyard-y.
October 27, 2016 - Going to be great in the coming years, but showing well now. Fruit forward, but plenty of tannic structure holding up the mid-palate. Cannot wait to see how this ages. Buy and hold, or buy a few to drink over the coming years.
