October 4, 2019 - Chewy, punchy Syrah with thick, compressed dark fruit and white pepper on the palate and long finish of dried figs, soil, and unsalted licorice. Interesting and tasty.

June 27, 2019 - First of 3 bottles purchased from a recent auction lot at about $40@. I had a lower end Alban syrah about 5 years ago; the fruit was overripe bordering on oxidized, and the HAC was overwhelming giving it a stewy feeling. I've had the viognier a couple of times and liked it, if found it a bit on the sweet side. Totally different experience here. About an hour decant before a small initial taste. Nose of muted fruit, mostly semi-sweet blackberries, wet earth, dried spices and pepper, consistent tasting notes with olives and smoked meats, an overall saline and savory take on syrah which came across closer to northern than southern Rhone. Solid tannic backbone, laser beam acidity, and despite the 15.4% abv, not a hint of heat. Dark, medium to full bodied, strong legs. Great complement to rack of lamb. Consistent tasting notes over the next hour + I drank the wine, so I'm not sure that there's a big need for a decant. 92+

Night 2: the wine has certainly integrated. Sometimes, this is a good thing, but even though this wine had diverse tasting notes and powerful tannins and acidity, it wasn't disjointed on night one, so the smoother tasting wine isn't clearly better, to my way of thinking. Slightly less interesting, but still really good. 91-92.

I think that this wine is in a great drinking window, although incremental improvement is possible. Should certainly last another 5-10 years. Great effort for a relatively entry level wine, although at what I paid for it, not clearly better than the 2016 Halcon Alturas, probably a hair below the 2012 Qupe Sonnies, both at lower price points, and definitely below the 2013 Keplinger Lithic (I'm on a good run with very solid syrahs at good qpr's).

June 1, 2019 - Delivers, not as extracted or deep as Reva, but on track, and as good as many other syrups at this price point, maybe better. Tensely is the only other that i think is close. Recommended.

May 26, 2019 - Super tight upon opening. Decanted for 2-3 hours and it began to hum. Ripe black fruit on the nose. Clean finish with a good balance of tanins.
