July 16, 2015 - A little port-y, but rick blackberry and mocha flavors

November 21, 2013 - Dark ruby with some bricking at the edges. Candied fruit cake, hint of menthol on a rustic liqueu like nose. Sweet, ripe , spicy, still holding some mid-palate acidity. Some lingering tannins on a cola and spice finish.

February 12, 2013 - Deep ruby. Very ripe nose of plum brandy (?), old wood smoke and white pepper. Sweet red fruits and some mid-pallet acidity, finishing with demimishing tannins and a touch of spice. Not up to their 1999 vintage but a solid Syrah for the price.

May 7, 2006 - I didn't expect to enjoy this. My taste has waned on Shiraz over the past two years, but for whatever reason I grabbed a bottle last night to have a glass as more of a cocktail than anything else. I have been suffering from a very annoying sinus cold all week, and on Saturday I was finally able to breathe again. I guess I was hoping that the Shiraz would blast through the waning elements of the cold, although there is always the risk that the alcohol will stand out more.

DAY 1: Yummy, I thought I didn't like Shiraz any more? This was very enticing with mint, blood, ripe plums and white pepper. Despite being somewhat jammy and ripe on the palate, this has surprising verve and nice grip, good acid on display. Wow, the balance here is nearly impeccable, really a surprisingly nice wine. One glass turned to two, as this was just so yummy. I corked up the remaining 2/3 of a bottle. (90 pts. for now...)

DAY 2: Dinner tonight was grilled teriyaki chicken, and I figured the remaining Shiraz would be a nice match. Wow, this has actually picked up a notch overnight and is even more fresh and lively than it had been a day earlier. The nose is very intriguing, now showing loads of pepper and ripe plums with a grilled note, again more mint in the background, but this is so much more lifted than it was a day earlier. Spicy and lively, really just a wonderful time to enjoy this wine. I'm getting more enthusiastic about this wine the more I spend time with it. Good show!

August 3, 2003 - Black, impenetrable in the glass. A massive, pungent nose of overripe plums with a hint of menthol. On the palate this is big, juicy stuff. It is a little less sweet than I might expect with that continued menthol lift following through from the nose. At the same time it is surprisingly spicy and peppery. The finish is endless with a nice bit of tannin amidst all of that fruit. Nice juice but a bit pricey for what it delivers.
