September 21, 2019 - This wine when poured showed a dark brownish red in colour with medium legs. To the nose this wine gave off very complex notes with hints of molasses, vanilla & chocolate coming through. To the mouth this wine was extremely smooth with no tannins & very little aftertaste which tells me it has matured and is at its peak at the moment. Still one of my most favourite wines this Rioja does not disappoint. Glad I still have 2 bottles in my cellar to enjoy over the next couple of years to see how this wine continues to develop / mature.

September 15, 2019 - Comfort in a glass. The nose is all dried figs, vanilla and warm spice. The palate is practically a mirror to the nose once the initial strawberry attack fades. Elegant tannins and acidity make for the complete package that always delivers.

N: Smoke atop vanilla with undertones of earth, cherries underneath

P: LM, poss Med, body; NICE, ALMOST swtish oak/frt met by a bit of astringent pucker as it fairly seamlessly transitions into a very LONG, BALANCED finish with a TANGY/swtness (60:40) to the unoffensive, yet firming, very, VERY fine tannins. Drinking VERY well right now, & I can see it holding through '22, poss longer. My EXC/EXC+; 93 pts ea Decanter's Tasting Panel [though later, 88 @ their '17 World Wine Awards], WS, Vinous (Raynolds) & winereviewonline.com (Lukacs), 92 WE @ $38, 91 Wine & Spirits, 90 Guía Peñin, and 88 & 90 winealign.com ! [This vendor's $29.99 is as good as any of wine-searcher's offerings.]

Note: Also tasted on 7/14 & 28/18, and 5/4/19, this being FAR & away my most + TN of the group!

August 10, 2019 - Dark fruits, fig, mocha.
Bold & intense for a medium bodied wine. Balanced, with melted tannins . The ending fades quickly.
    Good food wine.
Superb with baked tomato tuna pasta

August 9, 2019 - Seems to sit there on its maturity plateau for ever and ever with no change. Two recent bottles and you simply could not have told them apart and even a non-expert like me would have said Rioja if tasted blind.

August 7, 2019 - The nose is somewhat flat with some subtle orange, tobacco and menthol; the flavor is smooth and muted with medium-minus body, warm red and bramble fruit, soft tannins and leather with some metallic notes on the finish. Good wine, but it doesn't seem to be developing much tertiary character and I was expecting more for a 14 year old bottle.

May 17, 2019 - 26m in French and American oak. Then 3 years in bottle. Definitely not a modern expression. Opaque glass for the bottle. Again, surprising. Maybe not the highest level of excitement, but worth more inspection.

N: RIPE berries with undertones of vanilla?

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, ALMOST swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which pretty much resolves by the LONG finish with a tangy/swtness & POSS incipient quasi-bitter flatness to the dusty tannins.
