January 11, 2024 - Dark red at the core, fading to the edges. Deep earthy, black cherry aromas. Polished and deeply flavored on the palate, raspberry, cherry, strawberry. Bright and fruit forward. Strawbery becomes brighter on the midpalate with air. Fine, smooth tannins. Excellent acidity and balance. Finishes long and gradual with dark fruits. Drink next 3 years.

October 29, 2023 - Delicious. A lot of tart cherry, just starting to develop some tertiary notes. For me, probably time to drink up as I like a hint of those older notes to make it interesting but not much more.

March 12, 2021 - Frank Murray III is right on target
I decanted and feel it was a tad better st 24 hours
It definitely resides on the bright fruity acidity and cranberry is spot on descrptor

For me it has a french lightness but lacks some texture.

February 23, 2021 - It's been over 2 years since I opened one of these. For context, I have thought for some time the 2012s made by Wells would need some time, as the acidity in the wines and the structure has been notable. I opened the bottle yesterday so it's had some time to allow some oxygen exchange. This wine is in a good place. When more cool, the cranberry acidity is bright and present, and the plusher fruit from the vintage is toned down. But, if you can get this right to an optimum temp, then it all comes together nicely. It has the red apple of En Bas, along with some tangy cranberry and blueberry. Even some cinnamon is woven through the wine, adding a cool note of brown spice and character to the wine. Finishes with forest floor/pine, mushroom, cranberry and blood orange. At 8+ years, this is still drinking fine. My hunch is that with the acidity still bright, and the fruit not tasting old yet, it's probably in a good window for the next couple years to really enjoy. PS...in late 2019, the 2007 En Bas was still cruising along, and while that was a deep, darker vintage, it shows that En Bas can hold up well.

    September 23, 2020 - Original notes from 09/23/2020:

    PNP

Deep ruby plum color, sweet cherry nose with a slight hint of prune or dried fruit. Some toasted almond and hazelnut with hints of coffee or chicory. Dried mud.

Very well rounded taste, not too acidic, not too sweet. There is a jammy quality, but it's not overpowering. Cherry and ripe raspberries are the main fruits, with some light earthy tones coming in. Cedar wood, green grass, black tea, and just a touch of chicory. The mouthfeel is medium dry with medium to high tannins. Medium finish.

Pretty nice all around wine. Still has some time in it, but there's not much that's surprising me here. Three more bottles in the cellar to see if I'm wrong!

    86/100

    New notes from 08/18/2023:

If you have a bottle of this sitting in your cellar, it is absolutely perfect. Same notes as before, but everything is much rounder, more developed, light tannins, soft mouthfeel. Toasted nuts and bread is mixed in with game, grilled meat, mushrooms, and forest floor. It has developed beautifully, and I’m sad this is my last bottle! I bet there’s another few years in it, but in my opinion this is peak!

    94/100
