July 24, 2020 - Deep garnet color turning amber crimson at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose is really perfumed with smoky orange peel and wet carton highlights on black fruits. The palate is full-bodied, ripe, but vibrant in acidity that is able to balance the elevated alcohol levels. Flavors of blueberry, blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, scorched meat and saddle leather. This is perhaps the best I’ve tasted from this producer. It’s modern in style, but the earth and acidity keep it in check. Finishes long on hints of dried herbs and white pepper. Drink now until 2040.

March 7, 2020 - Vega Sicilia Valbuena Vertical (Bob's, Lincoln Park): Nose: The nose here shows off more elegance than the previous vintages and is chock-filled with violets, licorice, black cherries, raspberries, spice notes, tobacco, and leather tones. There is a lot of depth and this leans into a savoy and floral take right now.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, yet refined high tannins. The structure feels like it is starting to pull back with a light-heavyweight feel and tones of violets, black cherries, raspberries, spice notes, tobacco, and leather.

Overall: This is starting to really blossom. It opened up beautifully in the glass and continued to evolve over the evening. This just missed out on the heights that the 09 hit, but this is a truly wonderful Ribera del Duero that is starting to blossom.

October 19, 2019 - Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 8 *shared* bottles] from 10/18/19 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Dr. Tom, once again, THANK you for sharing this STUNNING wine! :)

N: Interesting iodine, poss minerals, RIPE berries coming forward with swirling; Intensity lurking?

P: LM body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt fairly quickly met by an astringent pucker which stays quite in contact with the init frt as it fairly seamlessly works itself into the very LONG, BALANCED finish with an attractively intriguing tangy/bitter/SWT trialectic to the few, unoffensive, yet firming, dusty tannins. For now with food, but probably DESERVES through '21, then drinking through its 15th. IMPRESSIVE stuff! 14.5% ABV; My EXC+/Exceptional-. 93 pts Decanter (Evans, 4/17/18), 17.5 (2x) & 18/20 Jancis Robinson, and NUMEROUS other + scores on wine-searcher's Tasting Notes pg.

August 11, 2019 - Tasted with Unico 2007. Not a big difference. Excellent aroma. Deep taste with amazing finish. World class wine. 95-96

July 26, 2019 - Dark and deep color. After 1 hour decant, the predominant nose was oak. Oakiness diminished with time. Full bodied, bold, silky, but still tannic and young.
