August 12, 2020 - Very nice Rocks syrah. Paired with amazing everything from scratch beef tacos. Definite Rocks funk on the nose, a bit cloudy at this stage but a brooding earthiness on the palate. Medium finish. Will be drinking the other bottles throughout this fall and winter, not sure this will gain much more from this point forward but certainly drinking very nicely.
April 25, 2020 - I opened this yesterday and drank 3/4. Vacu-vinned the portion that I'm recording today.
Strong aromas of red fruit (Strawberry) with meat, pepper further in the background. Medium-plus body with a very smooth texture. Flavors of strawberry, pepper, and anise. Medium finish. Medium acidity.
February 13, 2020 - Simply a fabulous Rocks Syrah.
September 15, 2019 - This wine is amazing. Decanted 3.5 hours and still had a lot of structure. This wine has a lot of life ahead. Bright red berries with green olive, river rock, and a bit of coffee. Well balanced in all regards. Served with Italian bean soup.
May 12, 2019 - Super rich and powerful. Blackberry, blueberry, crushed violets and lavender. The viognier co-ferment comes through and is really beautiful.
August 14, 2018 - Velvet coats your tongue while full rich flavors overwhelm your palate with luscious dark fruit, cocoa flavors, spice....all so well balanced and complex. Certainly not a Syrah fruit bomb, and not having any of the over acidic quality some syrahs can have, this is full rich and fabulous.
April 12, 2017 - This is my second note, one year after my first.
Not as impressed.
Nose of dark berries and alcohol(14.5%).
Taste is plums, tobacco, violets.
It seems to be missing something I cant put my finger on it. Like watching a 3D movie without the glasses on. Maybe it is depth or complexity.
Since I am the outlier here I will taste again for confirmation.
Finish is nice.
April 6, 2017 - Upgrade a point! Mouthfeel is outstanding; candied impression gone. Otherwise, notes still apply. Bottle 2 of 6.
5/4/2016 Note: At first, it seemed too candied, even though there was a LOT going on. But then the goings-on overtook everything. This is truly a unique, taste bud blowing wine. No drop off whatsoever on day two. 94 pts.
