Community Tasting Notes 13

November 12, 2022 - Soft cork comes out easily and stays in one piece. Colour is a very dark red, almost black. Concentrated nose of cola, liquorice, and Worcestershire sauce, with a hint of raspberry candy. Liqueur-like palate: sweet flavours of cassis, and sloe berry, with hints of cola, mint, and liquorice. Enough bright acidity to keep it from being cloying, but very little tannin. Lack of tannin makes me think this is past its best, but it's still brilliant.

March 26, 2019 - Dark, inky nose of cassis, liquorice, and tarragon. Palate shows ultra-concentrated flavours of Ribena, cassis, and blueberry, with strong aromatic notes of tarragon, sage, and star anise. The cordial-like fruit is balanced by the whopping 17.5% alcohol: it's more like a dry Port than a table wine. I found the intensity off-putting at first, but after a few sips, I was on board. I found this quite enjoyable, especially when paired with rich, cheesy Italian food.

January 21, 2019 - Dark, intense nose: notes of blackberry jam, cola, fennel, and cherry bitters. Palate shows strong flavours of cassis, paprika, clove, and basil. Tight, syrupy mouthfeel, with strong alcohol, acid, and tannin: not harsh, but intense enough to overpower the sweet fruit.

October 20, 2018 - I can't believe this is 15 years old...so dark purple that it looks like NV port. no oxidation or bricking. deep blue fruits, plum, harsh menthol....cough syrup after 30 mins of air...really is OK as a "drink"...like it while watching football on the couch...not delicate or subtle LOL.

June 23, 2017 - Deep, dark, inky, red and unctuous this wine positively fills the mouth with stewed plums and hints of blueberries. With soft tannins, this wine has a whopping 17.9% alchohol which is surprisingly inconspicuous.
It smells like forest floor and smokey bacon. The body is full and with low acidity. The wine has a fleshy texture and finishes long. Drunk a day after opening and there isn't a hint of deterioration. Drinking beautifully now, but with years left in it.
