August 25, 2019 - No formal note, this is a little on the hot side and needs decant time to allow it to calm down but once it does it is a solid bottle.

January 15, 2019 - What's your favorite Rhone appellation? If you're going along the north, you get wines made of 100% Syrah, while the south allows for a bit of diversity where the same grape is blended with Grenache and Mourvedre. Gigondas seems to always be in the shadow of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, probably because it offers (in many cases) much cheaper juice, but also a much more rustic one. If you're just starting out with wine, this may not be your preferred cuppa tea.

Whether you like this style or not, it can't be argued that Guigal delivers every time. At least when it comes to grape/regional representation. The nose is marked with loads of ripe red fruit that plays around with tones of leather, barbecued pork skin, cassis and freshly dug-up soil. Medium-bodied with blasting alcohol. The fruit is on the riper side, sort of masking the acidity that could have been a tad higher in my book. Due to a cautious vintage, this is definitely not something you'd like to age for long, but can be easily kept until 2023.

September 29, 2018 - RQP décevant. Ça se boit bien, mais peut de substance et pas de longueur. Évolutif avec un peu de temps, mais je ne racheterai pas.

August 14, 2018 - Jujube E. Guigal Wine Dinner: 4th Course: Gigondas 2013, served with grilled pork sausage with asian ratatouille. Grapey, blackberries, very tart with heavy doses of anise. Pretty typical Gigondas, high alcohol and low acid, though not really my scene. Can’t go wrong accompanying some fennel sausage. Wine B / Pairing A-.
