November 11, 2022 - Powerful and concentrated Rotie made from a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, juice is aged for 38 months in new oak. Deep ruby. Intense and complex aroma of plums, dried tomatoes, herbs, pepper, meaty notes of cold cuts, new leather, fresh pepper hints of celery and graphite. Full body, masculine structure with pleasantly austere edges as it just enters its drinking window. Texture is smooth and soft with gamey smoked black fruit flavours along bright and well integrated acidity, structured fine tannins.

February 13, 2022 - Thought it was very good. Perhaps trying to be a bit new world? Agree with the comment on perhaps too much wood.

    February 5, 2022 - Color: Dark ruby.

Nose: Black/purple plum, blackberry, black raspberry, violet, smoke, and a kiss of cola and espresso coffee, and charred new oak. Medium complexity. No barnyard or brett at all.

Palate: Med-full body. Decent fruit concentration, but not plush or extraordinary. Smacks you with raw oak. A little woody. And a little lean. Significant tannins still -including from the oak. Balance is okay, not great.

I call them as I see them. Having been to Ampuis three times, and to Guigal, I love this producer and this wine. But, this Cote-Rotie would have been better without so much new wood. There is not enough fruit concentration here to support 100% new oak treatment. The raw oak dominates and has still not integrated itself. Still, after almost 10 years.

    92: now.
    92-94: possibly with age.
Peak drinking: 2027-2035 (from a proper cellar).
