June 7, 2022 - Such softness! No hard edges - surprising! This is a super wine. I really love this. Round, velvety, and just hypnotic perfume soaring from the glass. Soft and silky - gentle, giving, loving. A truly superb Barolo.

June 7, 2022 - Impromtu 2011 Barolos (Terra Rossa, Islington): This was more closed on the nose that the other wines, giving little away. Given so much of Barolo is about the aroma this was a shame. My notes began to drift by this point in the evening, but I remember it being open on the palate without standing out particularly. Perfectly decent, but outshone by other wines on the night that were more immediately engaging.

June 7, 2022 - 2011 Barolo* (Terra Rossa): Soft, rounded, classical nose, full of red fruit and then very floral after some time in the glass. Very charming on the palate, with good balance, dark (yet bright) fruit and a hint of something exotic. I slightly preferred the more impactful Oddero and Brovia, but there was not much in it, especially after the floral notes made themselves known.

October 4, 2021 - Drink. I'm a big fan of the 2011 vintage, loved how approachable these were early, big fruit generally across the board. I've gone back recently and had a few that I've loved - Renato Corino's Rocche dell'Annunziata, Scavino's Cannubi, Cappellano's Rupestris, and while they've all held together, they universally seem to be on the cusp of a not so graceful rapid acceleration into unflattering tertiary flavors. The hot vintage giveth and taketh away - I'd consume these and hold on to the vintages better built for aging...

May 10, 2018 - Vajra & Baudana Barolo Dinner (Ai Fiori (Langham Hotel on 5th Ave)): Tannins like very finely ground sand. In this wine those are the more predominant flavor. Touch of sweet red fruits as well. It's very young. Needs more time.
