August 2, 2019 - Another lost Friday afternoon gathering – 88 DRCs, 90 Bordeauxs, Raveneaus, Dauvissats and etc. (Black Salt, Washington DC): Intense nose displaying concentrated black fruit, cassis, crushed blueberries, black cherry, licorice, a hint of green, tobacco, cedar, lead pencil and scorched earth. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of intense sweet black fruit, unctuous, bright acidity, good mineral, the tannins are mostly masked by the concentrated fruit and a long intense black fruit driven finish with a hint of scorched earth at the end. Although it seems to be cellared ideally, there is a hint of band aid/brett. However, it is not terribly bothersome. Excellent showing.

August 2, 2019 - Huge, complex perfume on this one, with deep black currant, humidor-level cigar smoke, warm gravel, old leather, blackberry jam, and old cedar chest. Big, dark-fruited, and well-balanced with a nice mineral profile on the palate, and plenty of polished tannin for structure on a slightly grippy finish. This was everything you’d want out of a fabulous Bordeaux experience, and the only reason I’d keep any points in reserve is that I think it can go a shade higher once those tannins soften a bit more. Really superb, and it topped a flight that included the 1990 Beausejour and the 1982 Haut Brion.

July 26, 2019 - A very good and mature bottle of this great wine which showed so much terroir. Great flavors of smoky dark fruits and warm gravel. Such a silky-fine texture and with a feeling of liquid graphite flowing across the tongue. Finishes with supple tannins and complex mineral notes. Not the most complex La Miss ever made but it's simply gorgeous to drink.

July 18, 2019 - Bordeaux Night in the Santa Ynez Valley (An Anoymous Winery's Gorgeous Cellar Table): Came off as fully mature, perhaps a bit advanced but that may be harsh. Quite light-bodied and smooth, with notes of graphite, ash, smoked meats and some ripe red and black fruit. Lacked that Graves earthiness.

June 21, 2019 - Now this is what I want. Gravelly minerality on the nose while drinking sweet asphalt and hot rocks on the palate. It really feels nice to drink a classic Bordeaux which gives these non-fruit flavors that one wants. That said, there was enough dark rich prune/plum flavor to serve as the subwoofer to the magic of the minerals and rocks. I had the 1990 haut Brion 3 weeks later in Paris and I must say, I prefer the la mission right now (although the haut Brion has a shade more fruit and weight but not the full on openness of the nose).
