April 9, 2018 - Almost obscenely dark color like vintage Port. Yes, there's still lots of fruit here but it's stewed prunes. Early-to-mid-2000s are a grim era for New World Syrah when it was Parkerize or die. I had better experiences with l'Aventure later in the decade when things were dialed back just enough to maintain at least a little bit of freshness and secondary development. The stewed fruit from overripe grapes stomps all over the secondary savor and depth (not to mention terroir) that should be here at a more appropriate ripeness. I won't even get into the heat of alcohol. An unfortunately deep dalliance into Shiraz territory.

April 29, 2017 - Drank next to 2004 Syrah Ma Vigne au Soleil (special single block club only bottling.) This was more fruit forward and still in great shape - years more life here but I think in a good drinking window. Was more fruit forward than Ma Vigne au Soleil.

October 6, 2010 - This one needed to air for quite a while, alcohol on the nose and palate. After about 2-3 hrs of decanting it came around. Fairly reticent nose of berry and faint smoke. Incredibly pure palate of blackberry and raspberry that is layered with subtle amounts of earth, with a blockbuster finish of more berries and cured meats in a delightfully savory combination. I think this one still needs a couple years. 93+.

January 23, 2010 - 01/23/10: no dogs with ribeyes at the lakehouse: 16.4% ABV. Inky in the glass with a little translucence at the rim. Meaty/charred meat nose. Sweet attack of red raspberry fruit and bramble. Rich full bodied and still very youthful. With a little air the fruit seemed to slide back and forth between raspberry and blackberry. Still a little chewy. Very good.
