February 10, 2024 - Given the nature of the 2013 corks I decided to open this wine sooner than I wanted to. Still concentrated and bit tight but earthy and balanced. Leaning toward darker fruits. A step well above the regular Alpine 2013 bottling.

December 5, 2023 - Color was very dark... concentrated and deep thru the core
Nose... intense fruit but none of the exotic spices or nuances that are usually expressed in pinot. Not to be confused with bad but was kinda one dimensional, dark fruits mostly
Palate... flavor profile matched the color and nose, solid wine and full bodied... more fruit than style .... perhaps this more to terrior than varietal and winemaking... there were no flaws
Finish: nice, medium long and held on for a bit... easy to go back to.
    Ovrall: 93-94pts
Rhys Alpine Vineyard is southwest of SF about 40 miles in the Santa Cruz Mountain, the "Hillside" denotes the wines came from the steep part of the vineyard, there is an Alpine Vineyard designate as well that uses fruit from both areas.

October 14, 2023 - An initial sharpness became smoother with decanting. Cranberry and earthy flavors with high acidity that leans towards old world, but at this price point, I want more. Maybe it will get there with time.

September 7, 2023 - Blind: pretty comfortable this was Pinot noir and probably old world, so that means burgundy.

When I grab the bottle I got a little white of Brett, nothing outrageous but I did catch it. This has a much more old world profile versus the horseshoe hillside. I thought it might even be a nebbiolo from a new world producer in Italy but I kept coming back to Pinot noir

September 7, 2023 - Bookclub--All Wines Tasted Blind (Foretti's in Corona Del Mar): Been a while since I had one of these. The pairing of this fight was both the 2013 Hillside H/Shoe and Alpine, and served blind, which was a smart way to contrast these wines and omit any table bias. Juicy, herb tinged with blackberry, and some dsark cranberry, along with a leathery/bergamot mixing with some cherry. A couple palates at the table said there may have been some band-aid/brett in the wine, but I wasn't picking it up.
