November 27, 2021 - Dark and full bodied, with a classic sweet Sonoma pinot nose. On the palate, this is big and rich, with loads of sweet cherry and raspberry. I’d prefer a bit more tartness in my Pinots. This reminded me of a 2013 Kistler pinot (Kistler Vineyard) drunk a few months ago - didn’t remind me at all of RM.

November 26, 2021 - This wine is just starting to drink well. Still needs at least 1-2 hours to decant. I opened one yesterday and it’s even better today (after overnight vacuumed in fridge).

Bright cherry and raspberry fruits. Earthy nose and finish. Delicious.

October 13, 2021 - I’ve been wondering how this bottle was evolving for quite a while and finally decided to check in on it. I have more experience with Rivers Marie than Aston, but assumed some similarities would show at 9yrs of age.

Upon opening, I was shocked at how much herbal funk there was, probably because I expected a ton of fruit to be evident. After 30mins, the funk faded and the fruit become more pronounced but certainly not overdone/extracted. Very pretty aromatics of mostly birch, raspberries, black cherries, and currant. The acidity was mellow at first but hit stride two hours in…vibrant, with cranberry, peppercorn crusted rhubarb, hint of cola and a great snap on the finish. Didn’t find any of that RM “orange peel” type note. A bit of a darker expression, which seems to be in a very good drinking window at the moment.

August 14, 2021 - Dark and thick. Age has done wonders for this wine. Over extracted years ago and mostly mellowed now with good fruit and some earth showing over time. Nose of dry dirt, black raspberry, blackberry, red currant, cherry, rainbow peppercorn. Good acidity with mellow tannins, oily, a bit tart on the tip of the tongue. On the palate more earth, a touch of mushroom, more black raspberry, very similar to the nose with maybe a touch of dark chocolate.

February 2, 2021 - When I get a California Pinot, I want there to be a little bit of power behind it, and this bottle gives me just that. Decanted and enjoyed over an evening, slightly fruit forward, but beautifully balanced. Garnet with earthy undertones, tart with cherry at the end, clean throughout. Plenty of red fruits, but then some oak and cola notes to set it off.

November 6, 2020 - Black cherry and raspberry nose, black currant and caramel on the palate with a hint of herb (maybe tarragon or aniseed). Starting to get some cooked or stewed fruit. Big wine, but still balanced and with a long finish.

August 6, 2020 - Still a good wine but this bottle seemed to fizzle out and go flat rather quickly.
