August 16, 2020 - This is a limited production (3000 bottles) of 100% Alvarinho from Monção and Melgaço in DOC Vinho Verde in northern Portugal. The fruit from 12 year old vines is partially de-stemmed and after skin maceration, is fermented on skins in 400 litre used barrels. It remains on fine lees for 9 months with frequent batonage. The wine has intense varietal aromas, is rich and full-bodied, perfectly balanced and has a hint of ripe tannins and bitter notes typical of Alvarinho at the finish. It is delightful though not in the same class as the aged albarino PAZO SEÑORANS SELECCIÓN DE AÑADA from across the border in Galicia. Drink now to 2022. (15.5). (The wine came from a case brought back from a visit to Anselmo Mendes in June 2015.
