April 20, 2019 - Dark purple. At first opening there were some rough elements to this, but on the second day it was much softer and better balanced. The nose bursts with juniper berry, anise, tomato leaf, and an intense irony minerality. Dark slightly unripe plum and red cherry dominate the fruit. In the mouth this is full bodied, with a linear mineral driven acidity. Lots of rustic tannin, acid, and a great bouquet. Loads of character. Still drinking well, with good life in front of it. What a bargain. There's a slight bitterness here, with the harsh acidity taking the front stage. Otherwise very enjoyable.

March 19, 2019 - Mineral driven. Black cherry and super fine tannins. Flowery forest. I suspect it can get better but it is a great bargain now.

August 9, 2018 - Night two notes. Dark purple color. Nose of dark fruits. Very pleasing, big, balanced flavors of black fruits, black cherry, leather, cranberries and chalk. Long finish. Feel like I was drinking a Brunello. What a bargain this was.

October 23, 2017 - Great fruit on the palette with soft tannins and a lingering finish. Just what a Chianti Classico should be. Only got better with a little time in the glass.

January 8, 2017 - This is nice and dry and earthy. A great value. I poured a little extra for myself and slighted the other Sunday Dinner Guests because I liked it more than they did. I gave them more carrots to balance the justice.

December 31, 2016 - Paired this with a Lasagna. It was a big hit. We are very thrilled to have a wine of this character at this price.

August 21, 2016 - Was tight and acidic upon opening. Needed some time. Light cherry, blackberry, raspberry, leather, and earth on the nose. Palate is dry with juicy acidity, sour cherry, chalky tannins and a medium tart finish.

I paired this wine with hand-made linguine with home-made gravy, meatballs, and brajola. Good everyday Italian food wine and at $12.99, great QPR but would benefit from a little more time.

May 17, 2016 - I nice, everyday drinking wine. Primary maroon colour, almost purple highlights. A bouquet of black tea, earth, tobacco and dark plums. On palate, good, quite racy acidity. Adequate fruit weight. Crabapples, blackberries, dark plums, soy and dried herbs on the palate. The tannins are reasonably refined. This wine would cellar for ~ 10 years and perhaps develop interesting secondary nuances. However, it wouldn't, I would think, be a long-term cellar proposition.

April 27, 2016 - Colour: dark ruby, bordering on purple. Very pretty nose of blackberry, spices, stewed fruits, mocha and vanilla. Replays on the palate, along with cherry. M+ tannin, high acid. XD (7 g/L), alcohol 14%. Medium finish. Better day 1.

April 14, 2016 - An old-school Chianti, boasting chestnut, cherry, leather and tobacco aromas and flavors on a broad-shouldered frame. There's ample fruit and sweetness here, along with earthy, savory notes and a firm, pleasantly astringent finish. Best from 2017 through 2024. Smart Buy. Score - 92.
