April 13, 2019 - First bottle from a recently purchased case. Was tempted given the quality of the 97 Brunello vintage but this is nothing to get too excited about, and confirms my view that for the vast majority of producers, 97/98/99 should be drunk sooner than later. Clear bricking towards a translucent rim. Nose with some herbs and dried fruit but not particularly expressive, a touch oxidative, initially medium tannins which soften with air, overall mellow and round palate, leather, muted finish. Would drink up as this will get more oxidative
November 14, 2017 - I usually dislike Sangiovese as big as this is, but how can you not love it—especially as it adds a bit of complexity to its richness? And this is fresh as a rookie 20 years after vintage. In decanter now and we will see if there is further evolution. I am betting yes.
September 4, 2014 - red, orange, in the color. black fruit, spice, on the nose. blackberry, pepper, earth, slight touch of va, on the palate. medium acid, medium tannins, on the finish.
August 31, 2013 - visiting with uncle marty and aunt betty . shared with um, ab, rick, janice, vicki, leslie and pat. beautiful dark color. no browning or fading. fragrant nose. medium mouth feel. still a little rough around the edges. unlike other tasters, i find unresolved tannins. may not improve but will certainly be good a year from now. i find that at this stage of development, my bottle has more to offer than is described by other tasters. perhaps not complex but substantial and interesting. wish i had purchased more.
August 21, 2013 - Fairly new world in style - well rounded fruit is the dominate characteristic. Little tannic or earthy structure. Very pleasant drinking. Not likely to improve from here.
July 24, 2013 - On the downhill slope. Tannins gone. Tasty and pleasurable, but lacking depth and structure.
August 19, 2012 - Absolutely delicious. Perfect right now but not over the hill. Nice structure still but mellow and approachable with dusty tannins and balance. Plum flavors. Yum!
August 16, 2012 - Raisiny. Fruity. Volatile acidity.
May 14, 2011 - Popped and poured based on previous notes. At end of day 2 now...more than 24 hours after opening. Evolved wine that is probably in decline. Plenty of interest....lovely deep crimson colour, giving way to brick orange but really glowing. Nose is slighty burnt and alcoholic with hints of orange. Palate is smooth...a little thin...nice acid, tannins still have some life. Fruit is dried prune, faint raspberry with some greenish herbal notes. Longish medicinal after taste. May not seem so but actually quite liked it.......drink up if you have any!
February 16, 2011 - This wine was very solid. After being open for about 45 minutes, the fruit appeared. I was a little surprised at how much was there still. Raspberries and strawberries mainly. Low acidity and alcohol made this a very pleasing wine. Not overpowering and went very well with our meal. Unfortunately I wasn't able to pull out more of it's nuances because we were also drinking some dense syrahs and they overpowered my senses.
