February 29, 2024 - Smooth and refined tannins of faded but they’re still enough there to hold it all together. Dry, Stags’ Leap, earthy leather in the zone to drink now But do continue to be concerned about the 2013 vintage’s staying power.
January 1, 2024 - Bottle was cooked. No rating.
October 2, 2022 - Needed lots of time to aerate and open the wine flavor. Still too heavy in tannins at first opening.
December 28, 2021 - Gave it about 90 minutes in the decanter, so it balanced out nicely. Dark fruit, big spine, super supple mouthfeel. Solid, but also seductive. Maybe even a little subversive.
January 28, 2020 - Decanted for four hours and it needed it. Dark purplish ruby red. Opened up nicely on the nose with some dark berries, licorice and spices. Heavy tannins (7/10) with solid acidity and a medium plus to full body. Coated in oak on the palate with some cinnamon sticks, black cherries, cassis and dark earthiness. Very dry and long finish. Drink till 2028.
September 6, 2019 - Too earthy. Other Chimney Rock wines are much better.
April 28, 2019 - Underwhelming especially for $140 Napa Cab
March 9, 2019 - Morrie's with Wiswall
August 12, 2018 - I can’t count
April 1, 2018 - Nose of cherries, menthol, cigar box and lead pencil shavings. Showing mostly secondary and tertiary flavors of mushrooms, coffee, earth and minerals. High levels of acid, with some blue and red fruit peaking out from behind the older elements. Medium bodied with good balance. Quite linear in the presentation, with good structure to last. Similar in style to a 2010 Forman I had next to it. This wasn't quite a good.
