April 10, 2020 - Day 1 only had a glass and seemed like pretty standard CS with currant, dark choc, a little forest spice and round but firm tannins. Day 2 was a surprise, slow swirled by the fire pit and it opened up to a silky lingerie feel of sweet berries and cassis syrup, a strong kiss of vanilla, along with a hint of med herbs and minty chocolate. The cool temp put this at the perfect place with med+ finish, over-delivering in a big way. Saved a glass for Day 3 and had lost some of its finesse, but a solid 90 for Day 2 performance.

January 30, 2019 - This is drinking much better now than earlier reviews indicate. Pleasant perfumed nose. Dark purple ruby saturated color. Rich sweet berry and cassis fruit with no jamminess. Medium/full bodied. Nice balance of acidity and tannins give structure to the flavorful fruit. Best after an hour or so of airing. Delicious now, I doubt this will get better but it should hold for 2-3 years at least. One of the best wines at this (modest) price point I can remember.

August 5, 2018 - After aerating and decanting, then waiting almost an hour, this wine finally showed some of its potential. Didn’t taste like much at first, but after plenty of time opening up, was much better. Full of red fruit.

September 9, 2017 - 9/9/2017 SPC Class Wk2: Deep ruby color. Moderate aroma intensity: red cherry, blackberry, eucalyptus. Dry, medium-bodied with lively acidity and soft tannins. Flavors of blackberry, and smoke/tar. Well-balanced and really paired well with braised beef & mushrooms.

April 25, 2017 - Medium to deep ruby red. Nose has notes of dark berries and a touch of spices. Solid tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. A touch of anise and herbs on the palate underneath all the tight dark berries. Medium plus to long finish. Drink till 2021. Great value at just over $10.00 a bottle.

April 22, 2017 - In better vintages, I stock up on this wine by the case; because it's one of the best quality values out there. The key is giving it a couple of years rest in the cellar. The 2013 is already throwing off sediment as the tannins mellow. Nose is coming together and starting to mature. Really enjoying drinking my 2012's , while this one matures a little more. Can't wait to get my hands on a few cases of 2014, when I get back from Tuscany. C'mon people, you can get this on sale for $12 bucks if you shop around. Just be patient!

December 10, 2016 - Generic and sweetish, just enough tannin for structural impression. Not good.

November 27, 2016 - This is a good wine to have on hand for weekdays or when you just need a little more in your glass but don't want to open up something of higher quality. For the price point - I'll keep a few on hand - although not very complex and fairly simple.
