March 21, 2019 - Wow, very aromatic bouquet completely matched by tremendous strawberry and other red fruit flavors, with complements of earth and forest floor flavors. Very concentrated flavor but perhaps lacking yet a wee bit on the complexity, which I hope to see more in the next few years. A truly lovely wine that is starting to drink really well.

March 18, 2019 - Yes, young, but is it just me that the last couple years of these have been nicely more constrained than in the past. Just as the 2012 Chardonnay was the best (by far) of any Marcassin Chard I had had (probably 10-12 vintages worth), I think the 2012 pinot is right up there as the best young one I have tried. I struggle to see how these became so controversial over the years. Pretty delicious and nicely balanced, a few years under its belt should make it outstanding.

March 17, 2019 - I was surprised by the energy and ‘other’-ness of the 2012 Marcassin vineyard PN. Having tasted a handful of California’s upper tier pinots, I kept my expectations in check. Equally informed by some high alcohol Turley zins, I was also anticipating an over the top style, which this was emphatically not.

PnP, the wine showed a wild streak tonight. Wild strawberries with stems, fresh cut raspberries, and yes, even some sous bois. Vanilla bean and strawberry cream glide across a seamless palate. Acidity is balanced but not bracing. There is no overextraction, residual sugar, or alcoholic heat. It’s a remarkably tasty domestic Pinot, without a flaw in my opinion. As this is the most recent release, I assume the wines are held in order to be ready to drink on release. This could be better in the future, but it’s perfectly approachable now.

March 2, 2019 - Shouldn't be drinking, but getting the allocation was such a pain in the ass - had to have a bottle. On the nose - vanilla, cola, purple flowers, and there's an interesting meaty layer like sausage or pork; also some herbs, thyme, sage, which might be creating the meaty note. Super well balanced. This is going to be great in a few more years.

February 20, 2019 - Perhaps my favorite Marcassin red to date.
