April 5, 2024 - Absolutely beautiful, balanced, and layered. Amazing from start to finish!
February 25, 2024 - Double decant; 60 min in bottle before drinning; light ruby, slight rim; rich cherry, develops nicely in the glass; baking spices; sweet cranberry on palate; silkiest of silky tannins mid palate; wonderful with grilled salmon
February 20, 2024 - Recently, I've sipped a few Marcassin PNs. They've all been different.
This one changed significantly for the better overnight in a refrigerated decanter, from PnP at 30 minutes.
Initially, this tasted of green stems and seeds... (and reminded me of being a young kid, boiling water with green spruce tree needles, to make a tea of sorts.😝🤢)
Can't get to the 90s I've seen about this wine.
Maybe it's the bottle. I'll compare next time.
24 hours later, this was remarkably better.
Addendum -
Because this was a rather odd Pinot, "to me", I had to keep a couple of glasses to air out over 24, then 48 hours, in a decanter and in the fridge
After 24 hours, this wine opened slightly, showed more expected red berries and less green stems. It never was a very pleasant palate pleaser.
After 48 hours in the fridge and ox, it exhibited a similar medicinal cola character and was tossed.
I have a few more bottles of this. I'll have to compare this, because I can't believe this wine, from this vigneron, was this disappointing.
I'm hoping it was a single bottle thing?
I'd kept a couple of glasses to
PN 100%
14.3% abv
W/O food
With Air fryer chicken thighs and fries
( I'm already not an air fryer fan, except it's really fast. But, removes much of the internal juices and fats. But again... It's really freaking fast and easy cleaning. Seemed to be more detrimental to wine pairing, no matter what the food groups Anyone with thoughts to change my mind. This is a new thing for me)
PS - Drink The Rainbow!
February 13, 2024 - Drank with RP and HD for the Super Bowl!
January 27, 2024 - 60 min aerated, 15-17c over 2h.
Wild duck, pumpernickel mash, madeira/truffle sause. Great match.
Blueberry, sweet licorice, viol, full feel and long. Reminds me of Old Sparky but more refined.
I Need a new case!!!
January 1, 2024 - Slight improvement over last couple of bottles; similar tasting notes.
Nose of strawberry, cherry liqueur. Full-bodied with soft seducing tannins, generous, ripe, opulent fruit. Drank half the next day without any change.
Definitely not your typical Pinot; suited me just fine...I like big Napa reds.
January 1, 2024 - Somewhat disappointing but well made overall. Beautiful nose of violet, cranberries, white mushroom, slate, hints of mineralogy and wet rocks. Largely primary and secondary aromas. In the mouth, flavors of tart red fruit (cranberries, cherries), smoke, coffee, and lots of vanilla sweetness. Weighty with good fruit concentration and smooth, ripe tannins. Fresh acidity. Unfortunately, very warm alcohol which makes it feel a bit disjoint and unbalanced. Perhaps not fully integrated? I will open the next bottle in a few years. But for the price I was expecting higher quality.
November 10, 2023 - Wine of the night. Huge and powerful and extracted like a cult Napa cab, but with the finesse and acid of a Sonoma pinot. Some of the expected cherries, but other fruits joining the party as well as weightier earthier components. Brilliant.
September 15, 2023 - Consistent with previous tasting notes.
August 20, 2023 - Very 2 dimensional and heavy alcohol. Didn’t enjoy and for the price, not interested.
