December 3, 2022 - Drank next to a 2013 Schrader LPV and the different styles were quite a contrast between the dark and powerful Bevan and the more elegant Schrader. Both wines are excellent but tonight our group’s favorites were a Haydn Piano Concerto (No. 11) and the wine from Rock N’ Roller Russell Bevan. Both wines were decanted for about an hour and were ready to drink.

September 22, 2022 - PnP seemingly great from the start, though improved with a shake decant + slow ox. 0ak and tannins completely integrated. This is is the zone.

Nose—smoky, hint of creosote that I seem to find and love from this area, crushed blueberries, perfume, after some time and with food, fig preserves.

Palate-an Eastern Oakville delight. Blue and black fruit, intense flavors up front tailing off into a thirty second finish, juicy blackberry and blueberry, black cherry, black raspberry, fig, some red raspberry, blood orange, some berry liquer. As noted, this is intense, and it works, but is no way near being over the top.

Drank over a little over 2 hrs. Peaked at 90 min, fell off ever so slightly thereafter but only by a point. 97 on open, 98 at 90 min, 96 by the time we finished. Sadly my last ‘13 Harbison.

June 11, 2022 - Nose of heaven, palate of hell. Vinegar here, vinegar there, vinegar everywhere. Not enough oil in this house to even make a salad dressing with this mess. Such a shame as this is one of my favs from RB.

September 6, 2021 - What a big, bad boy this wine is! Decanted and removed lots of solids. This is a magnificent cab sauv/cab franc blend with enormous breadth and width in the mouth. Dark red and red fruits on the nose and in the mouth. Excellent aftertaste. Complex and worth the wait. Only thing wrong is this is our one and only bottle!

February 2, 2019 - Initially taught and a bit linear, but keenly focused and energetic, the 2013 Harbison hits the palate with a firm push of dark black and purple berry core fruit. Black rock, clove, burnt bark, and plum skin round out the flavor profile. The black minerality injects itself throughout the delivery, inviting a more elevated experience, but also stunting the fruit from completely fanning out. Mid-palate density was notable (even despite its racy skip across the mid). Finishes strong and a touch crunchy.

As with many 2013s, this wine shows a desire for continued short-term cellaring, as the tannins are still flexing a decent amount of tension and creating a bit of a grippy frame. It’s in that, “I’m a big boy now and just can’t wait to prove it to you” mode, but it’s still clenching a little too tight to mommy’s hand and won’t let go. The potential is there it seems, so give it a couple more years; hopefully it’ll come around the bend and kick it into 5th gear at some point. For now, it’s very good, but I sense the best is yet to come. Hold until after 2021/2022+. 95-96+ points.
