Community Tasting Notes 54

June 30, 2022 - This wine was disappointing and had thinned out and fruits / tannins gone. Seemed watered down.

November 8, 2021 - Chocolate, truffles, cherries on the nose. More acid aroma. On the palate, rooibos tea, cherries and plums, potpourri, forrest. Smooth tannins with good solid frame. Pepper and clove finish lingers.

September 9, 2018 - An interesting wine that changed dramatically over three hours in glass. This started out as more forest floor vs fruit, despite seeming to show lots of ripe black and red berries. That earthiness remained intact but more fruit, spice and floral notes slowly starting emerging over the next hour+, particularly aromatically. This was very enticing at the one-hour mark. This slowly started fading after open 2+ hours, and starting seeming tired. 89 points when popped-and-poured, 92 points at the one-hour mark, then back to 89 at 3 hours.

February 26, 2018 - I bought this wine at release due to the quality of the vintage. I have had it in a cook cellar ever since. The cork was like a brand new cork. The wine left very little sediment, virtually none. The color had just a tiny bit of brick on the edge, otherwise the wine’s color was bright. The nose was complex with a bit of smoke and leather. On the palate the wine first tasted very tarry and rubbery. That aspect dissipated upon some airing. Smoke, dead leaf and dried cherry dominated the fruit built over the next 45 minutes. No blockbuster but enjoyable.

September 10, 2017 - Vinetasters- 1997 Brunellos (Holiday Inn, Skokie IL): While I don't think this was necessarily flawed, it was showing a lot of stewy and balsamic notes that felt like it was over the hill. My #10 and the group's #10
