March 27, 2024 - perfect mid-neck fill, long elastic cork, decanted 3 hrs, some coarse sediment, still very youthful vibrant colour with only the slightest brown tinge, lovely lifted, really fine and classy nose, elegant but with great intensity, also wonderful intensity, finesse and class on the palate, smooth and long, quite dry with distinct acid at the finish keeping it clean and fresh, lovely fine wine at its peak, classic aged DdC with a featherlight touch, only 12% abv, wonderful fragrant nose in the near-empty glass, the Volnay lover’s Bordeaux

February 18, 2024 - Surprisingly alive! Pleasant ruby colour. Tertiary notes on the nose: undergrowth, mushrooms. The palate shows nicely with sweet fruit with minerals and herbs, with a long finish. A real pleasure for those who like old Bordeaux.

October 20, 2023 - Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier rouge (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. This reminds me of the 1990 but a slightly more lightweight version, brambles, blackcurrant, biscuit, sous bois, leather, earth. Juicy, savoury, slightly meaty, brambly fruit, leather, cedar, talc textured tannins. Unsurprisingly bigger than the 1983, slightly more savoury but rather nice.

April 14, 2023 - Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Biscuit, toast, dark hued fruits, sweet spice, a little meaty underpin, leather with time the fruit grows and is joined by a little cream and an almost jubey night. The biscuit quality translates to the palate as well and is dominate factor here along with the dark hued fruit, leather and quite talc textured tannic grip. Nice.

March 18, 2023 - lower neck level, excellent long elastic cork, a little fine sediment, decanted 2+ hours, colour still remarkably youthful black cherry-red with almost no brown, lovely, really fine, classy and elegant nose, classic warm earth and fine fruit, palate is silky smooth and feels weightless but with concentration, length and persistence, quite dry, more acid than tannin at the finish, lovely classic DdC with the lift, finesse, precision and class that I really appreciate, previous bottle was drunk socially without the necessary attention that the nuances of the wine deserve, the antithesis of flashy or brash, reaffirms my appreciation of the characteristics of aged DdC

January 20, 2023 - mid-neck level, perfect long cork, fine elegant nose that opened with time, overall very fine and with excellent balance but relatively light in character

January 9, 2023 - Decanted off very fine sediment. This never really opened up aromatically. There were hints of smoke and plummy fruit, but they were faint. The palate has a charming texture, with a silky feel and fine tannins still present. The acidity is perhaps a little harsher than is ideal, but the distraction is minor. This bottle was far from great but was a pleasant drink. I would try for a longer decant on my next bottle, since this one did seem to open up some with air and time.

August 26, 2020 - Still alive and holding up. Good ruby colour, the nose is disappointing and closed but the palate showed nicely with sweet fruit with minerals and herbs. It is a bit simple to gain a higher score but very nice to drink

August 4, 2020 - Over the hill. Tried it over 5 hours and it did not improve. Poured it out, life’s too short.
