June 11, 2022 - Not aggressive, not tannic, but extremely well-balanced Gigondas. It just barely hits the characteristic rocky taste the appellation is known for but still comes off fantastically. I suspect aging in a magnum for 8 years has helped a bit.

Tasted from magnum. Tasted non blind as part of a vertical tasting.

Garnet color in the glass, a little cloudy looking. Tight nose of potpourri, spice box and plum. Flavors of plums, boysenberries and a hint of cherry. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold.

September 29, 2019 - Still drinking well but time to drink up as the secondary flavors are not bad, but not really additive to enjoyment and the risk is probably more on the downside (but what do I know). This is solid CdR pleasure here. Really nice, balanced SoRo rendition of Syrah. Ripeness but everything in balance with scorched earth, warmed raspberries, wild sage and touches of black pepper heat. A real pleasure over two nights, but best on the first night.

August 2, 2019 - Open from magnum alongside a magnum of the 2015. Decanted about half of both bottles about 1pm, then compared the two vintages both decanted and straight from the recorked bottles starting about 8pm. Both vintages showed quite a bit better from the bottle having just been reopened than they did from the decanter. I would say maybe 30-60 minute decant is good for both, or if they'll be out longer just let them breath in the bottle.

The 2014 from the bottle was the winner of the four glasses for both tasters. This vintage had 20% Grenache blended in which really seemed to bolster the Syrah from a weaker vintage. This displayed lush ripe strawberry and blackberry characteristics with just a hint of tart cranberry on the finish that wasn't unpleasant.

The 2015 had some funk on the nose at first that did blow off, but was a little out of balance in general, with a little more tart fruit acidity than should have been prominent. Reading the WS vintage report, it looks like Syrah had a hard time ripening for many in this area, and that seems a likely reason for the acidity. Some barnyard funk remained throughout.

Both vintages are ones to drink soon, even from magnum.

July 11, 2019 - If there was a value for price rating it would be in the low to mid 90s.
Decanted about an hour drank over four hours.
