February 11, 2024 - As a nice evolution, my last bottle scores best of the lot, as the wine gained intensity and complexity. Mature dark berry nose, with some pepper, menthol and liquorice. Medium bodied, with dark fruit, toast, plum, pepper, garrigue, chocolate. Well structured and balanced.

March 30, 2021 - Atypical Amarone, lacking the phenolic/portwine "boost" provided by pre-drying some of the grapes. Also already in decline, with overmaturation amd madeira tones. Very mature red berries, toast, plum, pepper, garrigue.

August 18, 2020 - Last time I wrote about this wine I felt that it lacked aromatic intesity and phenolic notes. This time, on the second day, it surprised me positively, gaining aromatic weigt. Mature dark berry nose, with some pepper, menthol and liquorice. Medium bodied, with dark fruit, toast, plum, pepper, garrigue, chocolate. Well structured and balanced.

April 3, 2020 - A bit of an atypical Amarone, lacking the aromatic intensity and phenolic notes. Lots of freshness, dark berry nose, with some pepper, menthol and liquorice. Medium bodied, with dark fruit, toast, plum, pepper, garrigue, but well structured and balanced.

July 19, 2019 - Somewhat atypical Amarone, lacking the "boost" provided by pre-drying some of the grapes. Fresh, dark berry nose, with some pepper, menthol and liquorice. Medium bodied (sic!), this Amarone only hints at the typical aromas: dark fruit, toast, plum, pepper, garrigue. It genuinly lacks the phenolic / port aromas normally found in an Amarone and boasts unusually high acidity levels for this type of wine.

May 25, 2016 - Amarone and a couple others (University Circle): Very nice showing for this. This is one Amarone I often see on the local grocery shelves and is under $50. Purple/ruby in color. The nose is dusty with black cherries. Slight hint of over ripe but not raisin. Very nice and showing a lot of complexity already. This might not make old bones (it might), but is drinking very well now. Slight tannins. Black cherry fruit. For all that I like it, however, it does not seem to have that extra Amarone quality. Why is this different than a very good Valpolicella?

June 8, 2015 - The wine has a deep, ruby appearance with a nose that is first overwhelmingly both fresh and dried red cherries. Upon opening up a bit, it smells of blue flowers and earth, balsamic vinegar, dates and other very dark fruits. On the palate, the high acidity helps maintain a freshness despite the full body and the complexity of flavours. Toasted coffee beans become apparent. The tannins are long, but very smooth (medium+). The finish is incredibly long. An outstanding wine: lacks nothing and everything about it is pleasant. Only thing is that I wouldn't give it too much air: the second and especially the third glass started to taste a bit jammy, with the fruit flavours blending together.

March 24, 2015 - VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy): Pretty see through crimson with pale rim; plush, sweet plum, red apple, vanilla, weighty on the nose; plush, more modern palate, softer tannin, plum, apple, vanilla; simpler for Amarone.
