Community Tasting Notes 122

December 3, 2023 - I regret that I didn't take detailed notes on this as it was the blind wine served at the end of the night, but I liked this more than the bottle served in 2020. Flattering, slightly fat blackberry nose, new leather, the oak better integrated than I recall. Not a style I'd really like to collect, but interesting and enjoyable to drink.

March 3, 2023 - Harlan Estate Vertical tasting (WSPC): 12yo vines, bottle came from family cellar just for this event, bottle open 12.00, 1 glass taken out and then poured back in the bottle, tasted 13.40. 1999 was a cold vintage, average rainfall, cold till August, harvest 20th Sept till end of October, 100% new oak

The wine shows evolved color, red brown color
In the nose, the wine shows evolved profile, decadent, raisin notes, coffee notes, dried fruit, red currant, earthy, olive notes, black cherries. Very fresh marmalade notes, juice, overripe, it has a fine thin oak frame, dried herbs, blueberry and prunes.
In the palate, the wine shows warmth, coffee notes again, chocolate notes, fine tannins, acidity biting the tip of the tongue, drier than the nose, fruit-wise, the palate shows evolution, medium body and finish. Later in the tasting, the oak gets more upfront

February 4, 2023 - In the presence of fermentation, as if drinking in the barrel room during while aging (perhaps an en primeur experience without the wine thief). Dried fruit, mocha, cacao, mucho oak presence. Ultimately overpowered by the Insignia in its flight, though took quite a bit of time to reach this conclusion as the Insignia was closed to start off @ Hawksmoor

September 11, 2022 - Nine years after my last bottle, this classic has held up unbelievably. Fruit and berry are simply luscious. Viscosity is amazing. Undertones of earth and a hint of spice. Outside the "drinking window," this winner is not slowing down.
