November 27, 2022 - Day 2, and it has maderised, somewhat. Yes, a little more complexity. But, I don't know. Something missing here in complexity and secondary notes.

It all depends on what you want from a wine. Perhaps there are no absolutes of judgment.

    Only relative absolutes.

November 26, 2022 - Dinner at Cassia. Deep purple. Tannins resolved. Well balanced and structured with lots of depth and concentration. No signs of plateauing, has a long way to go. This is the best LP I have had so far (other LPs tasted include 1982, 1995, 2003, 2006, 2008).

November 26, 2022 - An enormous wine, with dark sweet ink, and typical LP depth.

This is day one with this wine. It needs to gather something in complexity. At the moment, it is a little one-dimensional. So I will come back tomorrow.

November 24, 2022 - Opened and decanted an hour prior to serving, the 2005 Leoville Poyferré is simply stunning. Showing a dense purple, ruby tinged hue; mesmerizing scents of red cherries, raspberry jam, and damask rose roll out of the glass with each swirl. Medium bodied and opulent with a core of blackcurrant, cherries, and plums that is wrapped in supple and velvety tannins. This comes across as younger than it’s 17 years would lead you to believe but with time secondary notes of leather, spice, and tobacco begin to emerge. Balanced acidity and a slightly smoke tinged long and lingering finish round out a wonderful experience. This seems to be just reaching full maturity and I can’t wait to try it again with a few more years on it.

November 20, 2022 - Decanted two hours but still painfully young... unresolved tannins... with air and time... it showed dense red fruit, hint of dill pickle/olive that I've picked up in 30+ year old Leoville Poyferre. Try again in 5 years?
