February 26, 2024 - This is drinking very well, and has matured without really fading as these wines sometimes do. Aromatically expressive from pop and pour, some fruit along with savory elements on the palate, lingering finish, enough tannin to provide structure, though it doesn't overwhelm it. This may have a number of years of good drinking ahead. The Originals bottling has been our favorite Stolpman syrah.....the price creep over the years, while justifiable, is lamentable.

September 2, 2023 - 12 of 12 bottles. Dark fruit (grape, plum), meat and cedar on the nose. Black cherry with some spice on the palate. Lots of depth. Very nice with grilled meats (burgers, steak) as it plays well with the fat.

August 5, 2023 - Excellent - Bottle 11 of 12. IMHO at its prime. Black Cherry, plum, meat & earth. Big body, long smooth finish.

March 4, 2023 - Bright tart cherry and raspberry on nose, taste is a little sweeter red fruit, still on the tart dry side. Tannins are balanced and finish is medium

November 5, 2022 - It might deserve a 93 after sufficient air. Beautiful color. Cork smells of grapey fruit. Seems very young despite 9 years of age. Shortly after decanting, tastes intensely of fruit, somewhat out of balance.

But 2 days later, the butterfly emerged from the caterpillar. It opened up, balanced out, and became wonderful. The fruit partially oxidized after time in air, developing interesting secondary components, in balance with the acid and fine tannins. No obvious sweetness yet the fruit is quite present, so there must be some. It has many years to go. Great now with sufficient air; may develop further with time and should hold up for several more years.
