Community Tasting Notes 7

October 7, 2011 - Opened the first of 3 bottles. In the beginning intense vanilla, cherry and rasberry. In the glass at first the hot vintage shines through, but the slightly cooked aromas are gone within a couple minutes. Very focused nose of red fruit and menthol. The tannins still have a lot of grip, and give the wine a very good structure.
I would guess this wine has at least 10 years of live ahead and will improve for another 3-5 years.

March 10, 2011 - No longer the dark hole of its youth but still with a lot of ruby color to share. This comes from a hot vintage but no one could tell, as the nose is all about fresh red fruits (raspberries),dried bushes and a suggestion of violet. A medium body palate where elegance is the key word. The fruit, the dried bushes are entwined with a great sense of freshness. Fully resolved tannins and shy on the acids. Missing a bit of punch. Maybe a bit more resolved than i would like or expect. Starting to drink well and hopefully will maintain for the next couple of years.

August 16, 2010 - Beginning to deliver its promise. Beautiful wine, compact, focused and very precise. Not quite as mineral as Poeiras from fresher vintages like 02 and 04, but a very tasty concentration of dark fruit flavours. Blackberries and blackcurrant galore. Combined with spice box and fine grained tannins, this is a joy to drink.

August 15, 2010 - All I can really offer as a TN is that I'm pissed this was my last bottle. Opened it thinking I would have ample time to sit down with it, get to know it, snag some digits--you know, take it home and smoosh it. No such luck. I had about three total hours with it, and only managed to syphon off the first quarter bottle. The rest went down the drain 8 days later in a gut-wrenching swirl of oxidized purple. All I can remember thinking during the waxing hours of this opened bottle's life is, "Damn, I sure hope I can finish this today because this has finally grown up into the voluptuous beauty I always knew it would be." If I knew then what I know now, this was a wine I could have finished in three MINUTES, let alone three hours. But alas, I was unable to complete the feat. R.I.P. 2003 Poeira: You were without a doubt the most amazing wine I never got to know, and I flushed you away like a sweaty turd.

    I'm sorry.
