November 27, 2023 - Another bottle of this very satisfying wine. Slo-oxed this bottle for 20 minutes. Dark violet in color. Lots of spice on the medium bodied palate along with darker red fruits (black cherry, pomegranate and raspberry) and some earthy notes. The acidity is juicy but balancing, and there was a touch of tannin on the finish. Should continue to hold for several years.

October 1, 2023 - Slo-oxed this bottle for 20 minutes. Dark violet in color. Red and dark red fruit plus a bit of earth on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed a fruit profile of mostly darker red fruits (black cherry & pomegranate), along with lots of spice and some earthy notes. The acidity is juicy but balancing, and any tannins and oak are completely integrated. Should continue to hold.

May 25, 2022 - Slo-oxed for 10 minutes but more air time is better. Medium violet in color. Red and dark red fruit plus some earth on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed a fruit profile of both lighter and darker red fruits, along with lots of spice and earthy notes. The acidity is juicy and relatively balancing, and any tannins and oak are completely integrated.
Fred's Zinfandels are lighter on the palate than some and we find that the Shale Terrace shows a red fruit profile that is a bit lighter than Fred's Old & Mature Vines. This does not make the wine any less enjoyable, just slightly different. Should hold for several years.

August 15, 2021 - What a lovely, elegant and restrained zin. Popped and poured at cellar temp.Brambly blackberry fruit, cinnamon and allspice on the nose. Nice spicy attack with even more pronounced peppery notes to go with the baking spices. Lovely blackberry fruit in the mid palate and balancing spritely acidity on the finish. I am finding 7-10 years the sweet spot for Fred’s zins.
